Mysuru: University of Mysore women’s cricket team entered the finals of South Zone Inter-University Women’s Cricket Tournament defeating SRM University, Chennai, by 31 runs at Tiruchengode in Tamil Nadu yesterday.
This will be the first ever time that University of Mysore women’s team would be playing in the finals. The tournament organised by Anna University, Chennai, is being played at K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology in Tiruchengode.
Having put into bat first, University of Mysore, helped by S. Nanditha 47(46), B.R. Kavya 33(19), D. Ruhi 29(19) and J. Deeksha 28 (31), scored 152/3 in 20 overs.
M.D. Afrah Muskan picked up one wicket for SRM University.
In reply, SRM University only managed to score 121/6 in 20 overs. Poorvi Rajesh 26(29) and Afrah Muskan 23(31) were the top scorers for SRM University.
Meanwhile, G. Vidya picked up 2 wickets and S. Nanditha scalped a wicket for University of Mysore. S. Nanditha was also declared as Player of the Match for her all-round performance.
University of Mysore will be playing against University of Madras in the finals.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, University of Mysore defeated the hosts Anna University by a margin of 25 runs by virtue of which they also qualified for All India Inter-University Women’s Cricket Tournament to be held later this year.
