South Zone Inter-University Women’s Kho Kho Tournament: Mysore and Calicut Universities register wins, enter league stage

Defending Champion University of Calicut and University of Mysore registered wins in their respective league matches on the penultimate day of South Zone Inter-University Women’s Kho Kho Championship 2017-18 conducted by the Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore at the University grounds here yesterday.

In the first league match, hosts University of Mysore, well served by M.Veena (4 min & 30s in the first innings & 5 minutes and 50 sec in the second innings), registered a 11-5 ( an innings and 6 points win) over Mangalore University.

In the second league match, University of Calicut helped by some inspiring play by R.Raveena (2 minutes & one point) and Varsha (1 min & 30 sec, 4 points) scored a good 11-8 win over University of Kerala.

Earlier, University of Calicut, University of Mysore, Mangalore Varsity and Kerala University entered the league phase of the tournament by registering wins in the quarter-final matches. All the four teams qualified for the All India Inter-University Championship 2017-18 to be held in Gujarat during December.

League: Mysore Varsity bt Mangalore University 11-5 (An innings and 6 points), University of Calicut bt Kerala Varsity 11-8. Quarter-finals:  Mangalore Varsity bt Anna University, Chennai 10-8 (An innings & 2 points); University of Mysore bt Periyar University, Salem 17-5; University of Kerala bt Madurai Kamaraj University 13-3 (An innings & 10 points); University of Calicut bt Bangalore University 20-2 (By an innings and 18 points).
