Sports injuries are injuries that occur when engaging in sports activities and exercising. Injuries like bruises, strains, tears, broken bones, sprains can be a result of sports injuries. Soft tissues like muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia may be affected.

Common sports Injuries

The top ten most common sports injuries are tennis elbow or golf elbow, Hamstring strain, sciatica, shin splits, groin pull, concussion, ACL tear or strain, Hip Flexor strain. Common sports injuries include Achilles tendon rupture, Fractures, Dislocations and Rotator cuff injury.

Rehabilitation

Sports injury rehabilitation is a safe, therapeutic approach that helps athletes effectively treat pain and achieve optimal performance with targeted exercise to help you to return to pre-injury condition.

The five stages of rehabilitation in sports injuries are 1. Reduction of pain and swelling, 2. Restoration of joint mobility and range of motion, 3. Recovery of muscle strength and endurance, 4. Recovery of co-ordination, 5. Recovery of sport-specific technical movements.

Three types of rehabilitation

The three main types of rehabilitation therapy are occupational, physical and speech. Each form of rehabilitation serves a unique purpose in helping a person reach full recovery, but all share the ultimate goal of helping the patient to return to a healthy and active lifestyle.

People with disabilities should have access to both general medical care and appropriate rehabilitation services.
