Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) had organised a Sports Meet for members, officers and staff of ZP at Chamundi Vihar Stadium here on Saturday. The Meet featured Cricket, Valleyball, 100m Run, Shot-Put, Tug-of-War, Slow Cycle Race, Three-legged Race, Lagori, Quiz, Breaking-the-Pot and Aiming Circle.

For women, the games included Walking Back, Throwball, Aliguli Mane, Shot-Put, Tug-of-War, Threading Flowers, Grinding Ragi, Blowing Ballon, peeling ‘Avarekayi’, Quiz and Breaking-the-Pot.

About 250 members, officers and staff participated. The team events were held between ZP members and officers.

Speaking on the occasion, DYES Asst. Director K. Suresh appreciated a good participation in the Sports Meet which specially featured a Quiz on Panchayat Raj Movement and a couple of Desi Rural Games.

ZP President Parimala Shyam said that the event was being held for the last three years which has received a good response. She added that the inclusion of Desi Rural Games would help the youth to know rural culture better.
