Sports Meet for State Govt. employees to conclude today

A two-day Sports meet for State Government Employees of the district organised jointly by District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and Karnataka State Government Employees Association, Mysuru chapter, which began yesterday at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium, will conclude today.

Over 1000 government employees from H.D. Kote, K.R. Nagar, Periyapatna, Hunsur, T. Narasipur, Nanjangud and Mysuru taluks participated in the event which featured running race, weight lifting, discus throw, shot put, relay and other events for both men and women.

The sports meet was inaugurated by Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Marithibbegowda by releasing a bunch of colourful balloons. Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep hoisted the Sports Flag.

Speaking on the occasion Marithibbegowda observed that the district had produced many good sports persons. He asked government employees to actively participate in sports events.

Addressing the gathering Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep said sports give a good break from stress and opined that reduced sports activities had resulted in increased health problems.

Briefing about the event the Association District President H.K. Ramu said that the winners of the meet would participate in the State-Level Sports Meet to be held in Ballari. He added that cultural programmes would also be a part of the event.

Mayor M.J Ravi Kumar released the 2018 calendar of the Association. The participants took out a march past accompanied by the Police Band.

Dr. K. Rameswarappa, Deputy Director, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, K. Suresh, Assistant Director Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and others were present.
