Mysuru, Oct. 20- Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha Charitable Trust, Mysuru, will be observing Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar’s Day at Sri Prasanna Parvathi Kalyana Mantapa, V.V. Mohalla, Mysuru from 9 am on Oct. 21.
The programme will commence at 9 am with rendition of Dikshitar’s kritis by musicians, followed by a vocal concert by Vid. Vivek Sadashivam from 10.30 am, accompanied by Vidu. Sindhu Suchethan on violin, Vid. Anooru Ananthakrishna Sharma on mridanga and Vid. Shamith S Gowda on ghata.
Profile: One of the most promising faces of Karnatak classical music, Vivek Sadashivam hails from the family of musicians who were direct disciples of Dikshitar’s lineage. He was groomed by his great grand-father, Vid. A. Anantharaman Iyer, Kolkata, grand-aunt Vidu. A. Champakavalli & parents, A. Sadashivam and Revathi Sadashivam, in addition to eminent musicians, Padma Shri R.N. Thyagarajan & Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sanjay Subrahmanyan. He also underwent training in mridanga under Vid. Arjunan.
‘Sub-Senior Best Vocalist’ (2023), ‘Best Pallavi Singing’ (2022), ‘Best Vocal Concert’ (2019) and the ‘Best Individual Performance’ (2015), from The Madras Music Academy, ‘Ananya Yuva Puraskar’ from Ananya, ‘Prathibhakankshi’ from Rama Seva Mandali, ‘Raga Laya Prathibha’ from Rama Laitha Kala Mandira, ‘Promising Young Talent’ from Karthikeya Ganasabha, ‘Nadakishora’ from Nadabrahma, ‘M S Subbalakshmi fellowship’ from Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha, finalist of SPICMACEY’s ‘Nadbhed’ etc. are a few laurels won by him.
An ‘A’ graded artiste of AIR, he has participated in AIR’s South Zone and National music events. Vivek, a B.Tech. (NITK, Suratkal) and MA (Music) graduate, has represented India in World Festival for Youth in Russia. His works in conducting workshops, publishing research articles and narrating ideas around music ‘Indian Cultural Experiences’ have been well-received by music scholars.
