The play is based on exchanges between Gandhiji and Tagore

Mysore/Mysuru: Kalasuruchi has organised a Staged Reading of ‘The Prophet and The Poet’ in English at Kalpa Kshetra Auditorium, 581/1, Vijayanagar 4th Stage, 1st Phase, on May 27 at 6.30 pm.

The play is based on exchanges between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore. It has been scripted by Bangalore Little Theatre and directed by Shashidhara Dongre.

‘The Prophet and The Poet’ is based on the exchanges, through letters and articles and few meetings, between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore over 25 years, with the Indian Freedom struggle as the backdrop. The exchanges reveal how the two personalities differed greatly on many important issues while maintaining a genuine respect for each other throughout their lives.

Today, Mahatma Gandhi is more or less a Plaster of Paris Figure, taken out and dusted on 2-3 occasions in a year. Tagore is largely unknown, except as the author of the National Anthem. A surprisingly large majority of the population simply does not know him as a part of the Freedom Movement.

Actors in this play are exploring Gandhi and Tagore and they often refer to the letters written by them. The event is open to all. For details, call: 94498-19536.
