March 28, 2019

Mysuru: Rajyotsava awardee Prof. C. Sarvamangala and Karnataka Nataka Academy awardee, theatre artiste Mime Ramesh were felicitated as part of World Theatre Day yesterday. The programme was organised by Mysuru District Amateur Theatre Forum at Kiru Rangamandira in Kalamandira premises here.

Prof. Sarvamangala speaking, said that theatre had not only shaped her character but also thought her to speak with an open mind in the society.

“At a young age, I had hunger for learning. But there were impediments in my house itself. I would tell lies at home that I was going to tuitions and attending drama practice. However, my grandmother and mother were encouraging me,” she recalled.

Littérateur Prof. Kalegowda Nagawara said that there is a lot of creativity in theatre, literature and art. Creative persons will always be relevant to set right the ills in the society. Theatre activity in Mysuru and Pune is very alive and this should continue, he added.

Veteran theatre artiste Mime Ramesh, replying to the felicitation, said that theatre came into existence to fight against many evil practises in the society. The last 45 years of my involvement in theatre has taught me Guru-Shishya relationship, human values and a mind to fight against injustices.

Sheela Kumari read the World Theatre Day Message. Mysuru District Amateur Theatre Forum President H.S. Suresh Babu and others were present.
