February 24, 2023

Mysuru: The State Unit of Bharatiya Bouddha Mahasabha will be organising a one-day State-level Mahasammelan (Mega Convention) at Lalitha Mahal Palace Grounds in Mysuru on Feb. 26.

Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, Chamarajanagar’s Nalanda University’s Bodhidatta Bantheji said that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s grandson Dr. Bhimarao Yashwantrao Ambedkar, who is also the Working President of the Bharatiya Bouddha Mahasabha, will inaugurate the convention by garlanding the statue of Dr. Ambedkar at the Town Hall premises at 9 am, following which the Samatha Sainik Dal will take out ‘Dhamma Nadige’ (Rally) to Lalitha Mahal Palace Grounds, where the convention will take place at 11.30 am.

The rally will pass through Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, Albert Victor Road, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle and other roads to reach the venue. The convention features a couple of Buddha Dhamma discourses, followed by a Buddha Sahityagoshti at 3.30 pm and staging of play ‘Devanampriya Ashoka’ at 6 pm, he said.

Pointing out that this is for the first time that such a convention is being held in Mysuru, Bantheji said that over 10,000 people are expected to take part in the convention, which is aimed at sending out a message that India is the land of the Buddha and to propagate the ideals of Buddhism. Many Buddhist monks from across the State too will take part in the event, he added.

Former Mayor Purushotham and Gandhinagar Urilingapeddi Mutt Seer Jnanaprakash Swamiji too spoke.

The Mahasabha’s State General Secretary Shivaraj, District President Dr. Jagannath and member K.R. Gopalakrishna  were present at the press meet.
