State-level conference on ‘Consolidation of Banking Sector in India’ held

Mysuru: A day-long State-level conference on ‘Consolidation of Banking Sector in India: Charting The Future,’ organised by the Department of Commerce and Management, Vidyavardhaka First Grade College (VVFGC), was held at the college premises here recently.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. B.H. Suresh, Professor of Commerce, Department of Studies in Commerce, Manasagangothri along with other dignitaries. Dr. Suresh also delivered the inaugural address.

Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar, Nitte University, Mangalore, who delivered the keynote address,  contextualised the conference topic elaborately and said that in business section ‘Yesterday means experience, tomorrow means aspiration and today means experimentation.’

He stressed on the paradigm shift from agrarian to the industrial and to the service sector and highlighted five continents through five fingers — the thumb finger is Asian continent which contributes highest GDP; index finger is Europe with democracy and legislature having 11% of  the population contributes 36% of the GDP; middle finger is North America with 8% of population contributes 34% of the GDP; ring finger is South America with 6% percent of the population contributes 7% of the GDP and the little finger is Africa’s contribution.

He suggested how to cope up with the trend of global business which is also a mysterious hurdle.

Expressing his views on young minds, he said that today the youths are more comfortable with the technology than the human beings, because they easily deal with Facebook than face-to-face interaction. He concluded his talk by saying that global banking means a friend in need is a friend indeed.

Prof. H.J. Chandrashekar, Associate Professor, welcomed.  Dr. S. Marigowda, Principal, VVFGC introduced the subject of the conference.

Gundappa Gowda, President of Vidya Vardhaka Sangha, presided. P. Vishwanath , Hon. Secretary, V.V Sangha, S.N. Lakshminarayan, Hon. Treasurer V.V Sangha, Prof. N. Geetha, Conference Convener and others were present.
