State-level Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan camp held

12 students selected for National-level event to be held in May 2019 at Hyderabad

Mysuru:  The two-day Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan – Karnataka State-level camp conducted at Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement’s (SVYM) V-LEAD campus in Hebbal concluded with the valedictory address by A.S. Kiran Kumar, former Chairman, ISRO.

SVYM, started in 1984, is a development organisation working in the sectors of Health, Education, Socio-Economic Empowerment and Training & Research.

Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) is a national-level talent search exam, organised by Vigyan Prasar, Vijnana Bharati and NCERT, to popularise science and identify & nurture talented students from across the community. Nearly 1,44,000 students participated at the school and district-level exam across the country in Nov. 2018. The top 143 students from 6th to 11th grades from 19 districts of Karnataka  were selected for this State camp.

The camp was inaugurated on by VSS Sastry, Mathematician and Origami Specialist, who with his innovative approaches to Math and teaching through Origami models kindled the students’ love for Math and Science. The camp saw a participation of 122 students. The top two students from each grade (Std. 6th to 11th) have been selected to represent Karnataka at the National-level to be held on May 18 and 19 at Hyderabad.

A.S. Kiran Kumar spoke about the immense capacity of human mind to do whatever it determines to and the need to develop it. Later, he engaged the students in a Question-Answer Session.

Dr. Hemanth Pande, Co-Convener, Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan and Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder, SVYM, also spoke.
