Bengaluru: Stating that the Government will provide all necessary facilities for setting up industries in Tier-II and Tier-III cities and also in backward regions of the State, Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar said that separate stalls for GI (Geographical Indication) products would be set up at Bengaluru and other Airports in the State for their promotion.

Replying to separate queries by MLAs K.S. Lingesh and Abbayya Prasad in the Assembly Session here on Friday, Shettar said that Karnataka boasts of a total of 42 products that have been included in the GI of goods list. 

Pointing out that this is out of the 370 Goods that have been given GI tag in the country, he maintained that the setting up of separate stalls at Airports will help find a bigger market for GI products, which include Nanjangud Rasabale, Agarbathi, Mysuru Sandalwood and traditional paintings and artworks, among others.

Highlighting the benefits of the State’s New Industrial Policy, the Minister said that Karnataka was expecting an investment of Rs. 5 lakh crore and generation of about 20 lakh jobs in the next five years.
