Mysuru: With temperatures soaring to 34°C to 35°C, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. P.C. Kumaraswamy has urged people to take precautions against heat-related health issues.
Dehydration poses a significant risk during summer, making it essential to drink plenty of boiled and cooled water. He also recommended homemade ORS, lemon juice, and buttermilk to maintain hydration.
Dr. Kumaraswamy cautioned against consuming cold drinks and preserved foods, as bacteria thrive in stored water, juices, and uncovered food items, leading to infections, cough and fever.
He advised people to eat well-cooked, soft foods and fresh fruits while avoiding roadside snacks, which can be contaminated with dust and germs.
Using umbrellas for sun protection and steering clear of foods and beverages sold at fairs, markets, and festivals can help prevent health risks. The Health Department has stocked Primary Health Centres and public hospitals with fluids, ORS, and essential medicines. In case of health concerns, people are advised to seek immediate medical attention.
