Mysuru: Kuvempunagar Police have arrested a man on charges of kidnapping his stepson and demanding a ransom of Rs. 55 lakh for the safe release.
The arrested is Keralam-based Sharath Ram. Timely action from Kuvempunagar Police helped in rescuing Hemanth Gowda, who was kidnapped.
Details: Roja, a resident of Kuvempunagar had divorced her husband and had married Sharath Ram in 2023. Following the marriage, Roja, her son 11-year-old Hemanth Gowda and Sharath Ram began living together. It is learnt that there were differences in opinions between Roja and Sharath leading to frequent quarrels between them.
On Sept. 23, Sharath, who allegedly kidnapped Hemanth, the son from Roja’s first marraige, called her over the phone and demanded a ransom of Rs. 55 lakh for Hemanth’s safe release. Fed up with Sharath’s behaviour, Roja approached Kuvempunagar Police andhad lodged a complaint.
Kuvempunagar Police, who registered a case, swung into action and traced Sharath’s mobile phone location to Keralam’s border. Kuvempunagar Police, who reached the neighbouring State’s border on Sept. 29 afternoon, conducted an operation, arrested Sharath Ram and rescued Hemanth.
Accused Sharath Ram has been remanded to judicial custody.
