Stop begging menace near traffic junctions

September 27, 2017

Sir,

I would like to bring to the notice of the authorities concerned about the nuisance faced by vehicle-users like me and many others at the traffic signal junction of Outer Ring Road and Hunsur Road. The motorists are constantly bothered by a group of beggars, donation collectors and vendors when we stop for the red signal.

These people move in between the vehicles pestering the vehicle drivers to donate alms, or buy their goods (ranging from flowers to mobile or car accessories) and in doing so they interrupt the free flow of traffic, especially when the signal changes to green, which has become congested due to the ongoing flyover work.

What is more disturbing is children between the ages of 10 and 16 are collecting donations for unknown organisations and purpose, when they are supposed to be in school. When begging itself is not encouraged, ladies are begging along with infants who seem to be drugged as they are always sleeping. Men selling various items appear to be well-built and are mostly between the ages of 25 and 45 years.

All these raise a serious question as to whether they are a syndicate of people planning for some bigger criminal prospective. This also being the Dasara time when city is decked like the bride such scenes I believe deface the city.

I request the authorities concerned to take proper action and curb this menace.
