Stray dog menace near Ideal Jawa Rotary School

September 12, 2024

Sir,

The situation near Ideal Jawa Rotary School on Krishna Vilas Road has become both bizarre and alarming, with eight to ten stray dogs frequently roaming the area, posing a serious threat to children and the general public.

This stretch is extremely busy, with constant foot traffic and a nearby private hospital. These stray dogs, known for their aggressive behaviour, have already attacked pedestrians and motorcyclists.

In the early morning hours, when senior citizens often go for walks, these dogs bark excessively and have attacked several walkers. Additionally, dogs sleeping near the hospital’s parking area make it difficult for patients and staff to move freely.

A 2021 survey highlighted in the ‘State of Pet Homelessness Index’, indicates that India has approximately 62 million stray dogs. With their population rapidly increasing, stray dog-related incidents have also risen significantly.

Despite numerous reports of dog bites and attacks, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) seems to have turned a blind eye to this growing problem.

It is high time the stray dog menace is addressed. The MCC, which has otherwise been proactive in city welfare, must now ensure the safety of residents and children in this area by controlling the stray dog population.
