Stray dogs feed on baby in Mandya hospital: Father arrested for abandoning stillborn baby in hospital

July 27, 2017

Mandya: Mandya Police have arrested a man for abandoning his stillborn baby inside Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) building, which resulted in stray dogs feeding on the stillborn infant yesterday morning.

The arrested man has been identified as Samiulla, the father of the stillborn baby.

According to the Police, Samiulla had brought his pregnant wife Rizwana to the hospital for delivery on Tuesday, where she delivered the stillborn baby through caesarean surgery in the evening. Though the hospital authorities had handed over the baby to Samiulla, he had dumped it near the Blood Bank instead of performing the last rites.

Though senior Police and Health Officials suspected it to be a case of negligence initially, the officials verified the documents and came to know that the baby belonged to Samiulla, a daily wager from Maddur district. A senior Police Official said that Samiulla was contacted by the jurisdictional Police, who are questioning him.
