Street vendors asked to focus on food safety

Mysuru:  Mysuru City Corporation (MCC)  Health Officer Dr. D.G. Nagaraju asked the street vendors to focus on food safety and follow all the rules under the law first before serving food.

He was speaking at the Eighth Street Vendors Day organised by the Mysuru District Street Vendors Association and Multipurpose Co-operative Societies at Sri Vidyashankara Nilaya opposite the Gun House here recently.

Stating that the Street Vendors Act came into force in 2014 and the government had implemented it only recently, he said that  as per the Gazette Notification, all facilities should be provided street vendors.

Everyone will be provided with an identity card and the place for selling on the street, he said and asked the street vendors to operate only in such places.

He called upon the vendors  to focus on cleanliness, quality of food and its safety and see that they do not disrupt traffic. A day-long workshop was organised to the street vendors in which more than 500 street vendors from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Mandya, Hassan, and other places participated.

Vector Borne Diseases Control Officer Dr. N. Chidambara, Dr. Kusuma, MCC Community Development Officer Dr. J.S. Bhyralingaiah, Mysuru District Street Vendors Association President N. Chandrashekar, Vice Presidents P. Ramegowda, Organising President K.B. Somashekar, Secretary Bhaskar and others were present.
