Mysuru: Young innovators of Coorg Public School (COPS), Gonikoppa, have built a Solar-Powered Smart Scarecrow for Indian farmers
This smart crop protection system aims at helping farmers reduce crop damage caused by birds and wild animals.
The student-built prototype uses solar energy, a solar tracking panel, PIR motion sensors, an Arduino controller and a sea shell horn to automatically detect the movement of birds and animals and safely scare them away without causing any harm. The system is eco-friendly, energy-efficient and designed to reduce the need for constant human supervision while protecting valuable crops.

The project was developed after understanding the challenges faced by farmers, especially the loss of crops due to birds and wild animals. Their aim was to create an affordable and sustainable solution that combines technology with agriculture to support the farming community.
The students presented a prototype of their innovation at the Shark Tank – Coder U Competition, held in Bengaluru on Aug. 8 before a panel of judges, industry experts and innovators.
The students were hopeful about their innovation benefiting farmers across the country by making crop protection smarter, safer and more sustainable.
