Mysore/Mysuru:  School of Law, University of Mysore (UoM), Manasagangotri in city had organised a one-day International Model United Nations Conference on ‘Impact of Cybercrimes on International Peace and Security’ at Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences (BIMS) auditorium, Manasagangothri yesterday.

The model UN conference had 175 student delegates to symbolically represent members of the United Nations (UN) to discuss the issue of cyber crime.

Speaking after inaugurating the conference, former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, Prof. P. Venkataramaiah said, “Cyber crime has no borders and is evolving at a fast pace. Perpetrators of cybercrime are often located in different regions and its effects are felt in societies all around the world. In recent years, the seriousness of this issue has reached                        a new height.”

“Students from different parts of the world are attending this model UN Conference. Universities should place emphasis on skill development programmes, leadership qualities and human values. Students should not only excel in their academic subjects but also instil communication and interpersonal skills,” he said.

International Law Expert and Professor at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru Dr. M.K. Ramesh who addressed the gathering said, “Today, cyber attacks are not limited to any particular region of the world. Perpetrators sitting in one country often attack victims in other countries. Now, any bank account can be looted and any website can be hacked by a cyber criminal. We need to discuss and find a solution to this serious issue.”

Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Bengaluru, P. Venugopal was the chief guest. UoM School of Law Director Prof. C. Basavaraju presided. Model Conference Secretary General Sayed Qudrat Hashimy and others                              were present.
