Sir,
To help Mysuru reclaim its status as the Cleanest City in India, the following actionable suggestions are proposed for the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC):
Garbage collection and management
Scheduled collection: Pourakarmikas should complete sweeping before 10 am and collect garbage between 10 am and 1 pm, ensuring a predictable and consistent routine.
Online registration: All households must be registered online for garbage collection services to ensure accountability and service tracking.
Complaint mechanism: Introduce a dedicated helpline number and/or online portal for residents to report missed collections, delayed pickups, or other related complaints.
Designated garbage bins: Residences with larger site sizes (40×60, 50×80) should be mandated to place designated garbage bins outside their premises for easier and more efficient collection.
Expanded services
Institutional garbage collection: Extend garbage collection services to institutions like schools, colleges, hospitals, and function halls for a nominal fee. This not only generates revenue but also ensures uniform cleanliness.
Separate registration for flats: Flats and apartment complexes should have separate registration and accountability for waste collection services to improve efficiency and monitoring.
Infrastructure and technology
Machine-based sweeping: Introduce mechanised sweeping in high-traffic and commercial areas to complement manual cleaning efforts and ensure thorough cleanliness.
Modern collection vehicles: Upgrade to closed, modern garbage collection vehicles to prevent spillage during transit and to improve the overall hygiene and visual cleanliness of streets.
Implementing these measures can significantly enhance waste management in Mysuru and put the city back on track to achieving the coveted Cleanest City title once again.
