Mysuru: Minister for Medical Education Dr. Sharanaprakash R. Patil yesterday inspected the spot at PKTB Sanatorium on KRS Road here where the proposed Super-Speciality Hospital is likely to come up.
The Minister, who participated in the Suttur Jathra, arrived in city and inspected the spot along with MLA Vasu and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Patil said that the State Government would take a final call on the construction of the Super-Speciality Hospital in two days besides gathering information about the right location for the proposed hospital. Tenders have been called for the construction of the Super-Speciality Hospital, he said and added that as the site for the Hospital is not finalised, he had come to inspect the site.
As K.R. Hospital building is a heritage structure, the public may oppose the construction of the multi-floor Super-Speciality Hospital in K.R. Hospital premises and hence it would be wise to construct the proposed hospital in Sanatorium premises near the new ‘Trauma Centre,’ which is ready for inauguration, the Minister added.
He said steps would be taken to upgrade facilities such as operation theatres, emergency care at K.R. Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital that are attached to MMC&RI.
The Minister said that he would hold discussions with Chief Minister Siddharamaiah in two days and would finalise the place for the proposed Super-Speciality Hospital.
Jayadeva Hospital to be inaugurated next month
Speaking to media persons after holding a meeting with doctors at the office of MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. Radhamani, the Minister said that the construction of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences Hospital in Sanatorium premises was nearing completion and added there were plans to inaugurate the same next month.
He further said that the doctors informed him about some problems in the Surgical Department and other units in K.R. Hospital and added that solutions would be found out after inspection. Stating that construction of Urology Block, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Labour Room has been completed, the Minister said that he would instruct the doctors to start the services there.
MLA Vasu, who also spoke, said that as lot of patients visit K.R. Hospital from various places though there are Government Hospitals in other districts, K.R. Hospital is getting overcrowded and added that once Jayadeva Hospital is shifted, the pressure would come down. He said that it is for the first time in 100 years that Jayadeva and Super-Speciality Hospitals were being constructed to avoid pressure and overcrowding at K.R. Hospital.
The new Jayadeva Hospital building being constructed in Sanatorium premises at an approximate cost of Rs. 141 crore is nearing completion and the Trauma Centre works too have been completed. The construction of Super-Speciality Hospital would be undertaken at an approximate cost of Rs. 131 crore and the foundation stone laying ceremony is likely to take place during the inauguration of Jayadeva Hospital and Trauma Centre.
