Mysore/Mysuru: A classical musical dance-drama on the life and works of Oothukkadu Venkata Subba Iyer will be presented by Surabhi Ganakala Mandira Charitable Trust, Mysuru, at the auditorium of Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University on JLB Road in city tomorrow (Nov. 29) at 5.30 pm.
The dance-drama is conceptualised and produced by Vidu. Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar, while its drama format is by Vidu. Lalitha Srinivasan and directed by Vidu. Vijayamala Saralaya.
Songs will be rendered by Vidushis Dr. Sumana Vedanth, Meera Manjunath, Dr. Veena Ravikumar, Nithyashree, Medha Vinod Shyam, Dhatri Kumar, Manya and Gowri.
Instrumental support will be provided by Vidwans Anoor Dattatreya Sharma, Vishwajith Matturu and C.S. Keshava Chandra.
Rohith Tantri, Lalitha Srinivasan, Akshatha Bhat and Poorvitha will perform in the roles.
Music University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakote and Rajyotsava awardee Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao will be the special invitees.
Oothukadu Venkata Subba Iyer was a great devotee of Krishna and a reputed poet composer with more than 500 works in Sanskrit and Tamil, who lived in the 18th Century post Purandaradasa and before the musical Trinity. ‘Swagatham Krishna’, ‘Alai Payude’ etc., are some of his popular creations.
