Suttur Seer presents ‘Shakuntala Jayadeva Sharana’ awards

January 8, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Stating that the world is a system where one country is stuck to each other, University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath observed that following the Sharana philosophy of harmonious co-existence can only save us.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Shakuntala Jayadeva Sharana’ awards ceremony organised by Akhila Bharatha Sharana Sahitya Parishat, Mysuru, at Sri Rajendra Bhavan in JSS Hospital premises here on Sunday.

Pointing out that the 12th century Philosopher Basavanna propagated ‘Dayeye Dharmada Moola’( Compassion is the basis of religion) philosophy, he said violence and destruction that is happening in the world today is because of decline in compassion.

Wondering if Russia, which has attacked Ukraine and Israel, which has demolished Gaza, can live in peace, he said that the world should follow the principle of peaceful and co-existent living.

Maintaining that natural disasters, climate change and such other happenings are because of our loss of compassion, he said that Sharana Sahitya provides a remedy for all human blunders, by showing the way for leading a better and happy life.

On the occasion, Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji presented the ‘Shakuntala Jayadeva Sharana’ Award to veteran writer G.A. Shivalingaiah of Mysuru and S.S. Vijaya (Vijayadevi) of Bhadravathi.

Akhila Bharatha Sharana Sahitya Parishat President Dr. C. Somashekar, General Secretary Parameshwaragowda C. Yereseemi, Mysuru City Unit President M.G. Sadanandaiah, Trust Founder (Datti Dasohi) Shakuntala Jayadeva and others were present at the event.
