Mysuru: A delegation from environment organisation ‘Parisarakkaagi Naavu’ met Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji on Tuesday and appealed to him to urge the State Government not to permit ‘Kambala’ (Coastal region buffalo race) during the Mysuru Dasara festivities.
The delegation, led by former MLA and State President of the organisation A.T. Ramaswamy, sought the Seer’s support in opposing the proposed ‘Kambala’ event, recalling his earlier intervention in stopping the plan to set up a sports stadium on the premises of the T. Narasipur KSIC silk reeling factory.
According to a statement issued by the organisation, Sri Deshikendra Swamiji said, he had no personal insistence on conducting ‘Kambala.’
He recalled that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had recently stated in Mysuru that the matter would be discussed with officials before taking a decision.
Retired Horticulture Department Director Dr. Ramakrishna, ‘Parisarakkaagi Naavu’ State General Secretary Parashuramegowda, Prof. Kalachannegowda, K.G. Guruswamy and Darshan Aluru were among those present.
