Mysuru: The Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme has been conducted successfully in order to woo more voters and increase voter turnout in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, said Mysuru District Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K. Jyothi.
Till Mar.4, 36,163 young voters have been enrolled. The SVEEP committee has visited various colleges and distributed 3,500 Form-6 (First Time Voters) and encouraged the students to register as voters, she said.
In schools and colleges, 1,145 Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELC) have been set up to engage school and college students as also their families through interesting activities like street plays, awareness rallies and hands-on experience to sensitise them on their electoral rights and familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting, she said.
The slogan ‘Your Vote-Your Right’ has been displayed in public places, on buses, rail tickets and on milk sachets. There is a digital display board installed on Chamundi Hill where voter awareness has been created, said Jyothi.
Ramps will be created at the polling stations for the benefit of the physically challenged and vehicles will be arranged to pick and drop them. In 1,829 polling centres, wheel chairs will be provided to facilitate specially challenged and the aged, she said.
