SVYM’s TI Migrant Project bags award

Mysuru: KSAPS (Karnataka State Aids Prevention Society) recognises TI (Targeted Intervention) Migrant project of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), Mysuru, as the best performing TI for the period Oct. 2016-17 in appreciation of services provided to the community. SVYM is a developmental organisation engaged in building a new civil society in India through its grassroots to policy level action in health, education, community development & training sectors for the past 33 years. SVYM is working towards achieving a healthy and able community by improving the quality of life of people.

In Karnataka there are 78 TI sectors working towards the goal of HIV elimination; out of that 5 TIs have been selected for Best Performance for providing valuable services to the community.

SVYM started the TI Migrant Project in the year 2012 for the migrant community of Mysuru. The TI Migrant project aims to identify & Control HIV infection among the Migrant population. It identifies the migrant community, educates them on the possibilities of contracting HIV virus and practicing safe methods to avoid HIV infection and also facilitates treatment. Since its inception, the TI Migrant project of SVYM has reached more than 50, 000 people. The identified cases have been referred and followed up with the Mysuru ART Centre. The project in addition provides nutritious food to the migrants and helps educate the children through Tent schools at the constriction sites.

Health and family welfare office, Karnataka State AIDS & Prevention Society, Bengaluru & District health & family welfare office, District AIDS Prevention unit, Kolar collaborated and organized a State-level AIDS Day where SVYM was honoured for ‘Best Performance’ among Targeted Intervention projects.
