Swachh Survekshan-2018: Cleanliness awareness fortnight launched

Mysuru: Directorate of Field Publicity, Mysuru, in association with District Administration, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Citizens Forum for Swachha Mysuru, launched a fortnight-long programmes to create awareness among people as part of Swachha Mysuru Survekshan-2018 in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple here this morning.

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep launched the programme by offering puja to cleaning aids like brooms, shovels, spades and basins. The participants cleaned the statues of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, Chamaraja Wadiyar and Jayachamaraja Wadiyar at K.R. Circle, Chamaraja Circle and Hardinge Circle respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. T.C. Poornima, Assistant Director and unit Head, Directorate of Field Publicity, Mysuru, said that the 15-day awareness campaign would feature drawing, cultural programme, lectures, cycle jatha and cleaning programmes at public places like hospitals, bus stands and Court premises with participation by people from all organisations.

She pointed out that public response and participation was vital in Swachh Survekshan and asked citizens to upload their comments through the Swachhata App of MCC or through the phone number 1969.

R Randeep added that the Survekshan team had already visited two local bodies in the district and the study would be taken up in city shortly.

MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha said that the Cleanliness Drive was launched in city four months ago and added that 28,000 people had downloaded the MCC Swachhata App. He further said that the public can give the feedback till Mar.10. He suggested Palace Board to set up a counter at Palace for visitors to register their feedback on cleanliness.

Citizens Forum President and former MLC D. Madegowda, Corporators B.V. Manjunath, Sunil and others were present.
