Swaraj India Party to contest either from Mysuru or Mandya LS seat

February 21, 2019

Mysuru: Swaraj India Party, led by psephologist-turned-politician Yogendra Yadav, would contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election either from Mysuru or Mandya. The party is also set to contest from Koppal or Raichur seats, said Chamarasamali Patil, Hon. President of Rajya Raitha Sangha.

Addressing a press conference in city yesterday, he said that a series of meetings will be held at village and taluk levels to finalise the candidates. “Our manifesto will focus on the welfare of farmers, soldiers and will provide strategies to solve the problem of joblessness,” he said.

Deploring the ideological and political vacuum in the country, Patil said that there was no political force in the country to strengthen democracy, diversity and development.

“Farmers are being exploited in the name of development and no government has done to improve their welfare,” he said and urged the government to fulfil the promise of loan waiver and at the same time declare 156 taluks in the State as drought-affected.

He said rural distress and unemployment will be key issues in the next polls and dubbed the Modi government as “anti-farmer.” He said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be fought on the plank of farm distress, an issue which caused the BJP’s rout in the three Hindi-speaking states.

“Farmer issues are now at the centre stage in the national political after 30 years. The next election will be fought on rural and farmer distress and if elections take place on these issues, then BJP seems to be in deep trouble,” Patil said.

On the proposal of State Government to build Disneyland-like amusement park at Krishna Raja Sagar Dam and Brindavan Gardens, Patil said that his party will not rest till the project is scrapped.

“The lives of farmers will be doomed if the project becomes a reality. The government must apply immediate brakes on rampant mining around KRS.

The Raitha Sangha will launch massive agitations if the government goes ahead with Disneyland project.
