Businesses to be conducted from 6 am to 2 pm, essential services exempted
T. Narasipur: In a bid to arrest the spread of COVID-19, Nagarika Seva Vedike and Taluk Traders Association have decided to go in for an indefinite self-imposed afternoon lockdown from today (July 13).
The decision to go in for the self-imposed lockdown everyday after 2 pm, was taken at a meeting between the Traders Association and Nagarika Seva Vedike at M. Mahadevappa Memorial Bhavan yesterday, which was attended by owners and representatives of bakeries, jewellery stores, grocery stores and other business establishment.
Vedike Hon. President P. Puttaraju, who addressed the meeting, said that the number of COVID positive cases in the taluk was on the rise for which preventive measures has to be stepped up to contain the spread of the deadly virus and urged the traders to be responsible and go in for a self-imposed lockdown.
Vedike General Secretary K.N. Prabhuswamy, who also spoke, said that a memorandum to stop public transport from 2 pm today would be given to the authorities concerned and bus owners and urged for the co-operation of the public.
Meanwhile, owners of chat centres requested two hours time to conduct business during lockdown hours as it was their business time.
But other traders convinced them saying that the lockdown would not be successful, if they are allowed to conduct business. Finally, the chat centre owners agreed for the lockdown.
It was finally decided in the meeting to close all business establishments except essential services from 2 pm to 6 am, starting from today.
Nagarika Seva Vedike President H. Arif, Vice-President D. Ramakrishna, Joint Secretary M. Venkatesh, Convenor Basavaraju and others were present during the meeting.
