Tailors seek fulfilment of various demands

July 26, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking  fulfilment of their long-standing demands, tailors, under the joint banner of Karnataka State Tailors Association (KSTA) and Snehajeevi Tailors Welfare Association, staged a demonstration in front of  the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) Office this morning.

The demands included establishment of a Tailor Welfare Board to address the grievances of tailors and providing financial support, introduction of Provident Fund and Health Insurance cover, monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 to all tailors who have completed 60 years of age and are beneficiaries of National Pension System (NPS), marriage expenses fund for tailors having girl children, maternity allowance to lady tailors, financial aid or subsidy to shelterless tailors who want to build homes and student scholarship for children of tailors.

The protesters said that despite many representations in this regard to the Government, nothing has been done to address the grievances of tailors. They wanted the Government to act on their demands and  come to their help, by introducing schemes that benefit the tailor community.

Earlier, the  protesters, who converged on Hunsur Road junction near Kalamandira, marched in a procession to the DC’s office, where a memorandum was submitted.

KSTA President Channa-nayaka, office-bearers R.N. Nagaraj, R. Basavaraju, Janardhan, Tara, Mariswamy, H.K. Pradeep, Siddegowda and others took part in the protest.
