Take action against vehicles without number plates

May 5, 2026

Sir,

The rising number of vehicles, particularly two-wheelers, plying without valid number plates has emerged as a serious concern in Mysuru, posing a threat to road safety and civic order.

Far from being a minor traffic violation, the absence of proper vehicle identification has wider implications.

It encourages reckless driving, including speeding and signal jumping and makes it easier for offenders involved in hit-and-run cases and other crimes to evade detection, undermining both law enforcement and public safety.

Despite occasional enforcement drives, the problem continues to persist, pointing to the need for more consistent and stringent action by the authorities. Experts and citizens alike stress that a visible and sustained crackdown is essential to deter such violations.

There have been calls for strict measures, including immediate seizure of vehicles without number plates, initiation of criminal proceedings in serious cases and greater use of CCTV surveillance to identify offenders.

Strengthening Police patrols and conducting regular, surprise checks in key areas, especially in the Narasimharaja Constituency, have also been suggested.

Mysuru, known for its discipline and civic sense, risks losing these values if such blatant violations are allowed to continue unchecked.
