Take steps to curb accidents on Ring Road

Sir,

It was disheartening to read the news item “IAF staffer killed in bike accident” (Star of Mysore dated Feb. 12).  Many road accidents have occurred in the Ring Road starting from under-bridge near Hotel Royal Inn till Columbia Asia Hospital during the past.

I am a regular commuter on this stretch for the past 11 years and witnessed more than 18 fatal accidents, of which many have happened just trying to approach the service road near the 3 under-bridges.

Though it is good to construct road humps, for certain reasons it was removed and collapsible barricades were placed near GRS Fantasy Park which is serving better at present. However, near the under-bridge which has one-way and people intending to approach service road during night will always be in danger, as the oncoming vehicles do not slow down nor allow to approach the service road, and even some vehicles overtake another ignoring approacher of service road.

Just a couple of months before, a Swift Dzire vehicle also met with the same fate under the second under-bridge, after which barricades were installed there. It is high time that similar arrangement is made at the first under-bridge near GRS Fantasy Park too, which can avoid accidents to some extent.
