Talk on ‘Sangeethagaarara Jeevana Kathegalu’

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of its ‘Sahitya Chavadi’ programme, Kalasuruchi, Mysuru, has organised a talk on ‘Sangeethagaarara Jeevana Kathegalu’ by Writer-Journalist Dr. Jagadeesh Koppa, at Suruchi Rangamane in Kuvempunagar tomorrow (Apr. 26) at 10.30 am.

Profile: Jagadeesh Koppa was born in 1956 in Koppa village of Maddur taluk, Mandya district, in a farmer’s family. He received BA degree from V.V. Puram College, Bengaluru, MA in Economics from University of Mysore and Doctorate for his thesis ‘Globalisation and Rural India’ from Hampi Kannada University. He entered Journalism in 1981 and served as Head of North Karnataka Regional Office of Hubballi Udaya TV until 2018 and is now living a retired life in Mysuru.

After starting writing in 1995 with the work ‘Summana Padyagal,’ he has written a total of forty works on subjects including Science, History, Literature, Biography, Development and Environment, Biographies and adaptations of artistes of Hindustani and Karnatak Music of Indian Music.

Since 2017, his works and some chapters of his works are being taught as texts for Under-Graduate (UG) classes in six Universities in Karnataka.

In 2013, he received the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Awards for his work on the history of Naxalism in India, ‘Endoo Mugiyada Yuddha’ and in 2015, for his work on the biography of Jim Corbett, ‘Bilisahebana Bharata’.

In 2013, he received the Kuvempu Bhasha Bharati Authority’s Best Translation Award for his translation of the book ‘Desert Flower.’

In addition, he received the C.V. Rajagopal Memorial Award from Bangalore Navakarnataka Prakashan for his article on Gulbarga’s Shankar Rao, Supi Kavya and Kathana for his work on the death of the deceased.

For his service to Journalism, he was awarded Environment and Development Journalism Award from the Government of Karnataka in 2015, H.K. Veeranna Gowda Journalism Award from Mysore Kuvempu Trust in 2017, Basavaraja Kattimani Journalism Award from Basavaraja Kattimani National Memorial Trust in Belagavi in 2018, Tejaswi Award from Tejaswi Foundation in Bengaluru and B.M. Sri Foundation Award.
