Taponandana Park stands out with rural-themed sculptures

April 22, 2025

Amidst the deteriorating condition of several parks in Mysuru due to poor maintenance, Taponandana Park in Kuvempunagar shines as an exception. With its rural-themed atmosphere and over 50 sculptures of animals and village life, the park has become a significant attraction for morning walkers, children and the general public.

Spread across four acres behind JSS Law College, the park has undergone a Rs. 1 crore makeover, now nearing its final stage.

The development features sculptures inspired by rural aesthetics, bringing a unique charm to the space. Though yet to be officially inaugurated, the park is already drawing visitors with its artistic recreations of countryside scenes.

Over 50 artworks captivate visitors

Taponandana Park showcases sculptures of popular characters and animals, including Chota Bheem, Mickey Mouse, a tiger, a lion and deer, all crafted from cement and fibre. These colourful creations particularly delight children.

Adding to its appeal, the park vividly portrays rural life through artistic installations. Sculptures depict a woman drawing water from a well, farmers ploughing their fields, a woman carrying a lunch basket and a shepherd tending to his sheep, offering visitors a glimpse into the simplicity and beauty of village life.

One of the main highlights of Taponandana Park is a striking sculpture group depicting three people cutting down a tree, while Mother Nature embraces it to prevent its destruction. This powerful artwork aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation.

A fusion of art, nature

A team led by Bengaluru-based artist Devaraju has dedicated the past few months to meticulously craft these sculptures. The park, located in the Ward represented by former Mayor Shivakumar, has been developed in phases over the past four years at a cost of Rs. 1 crore. With the final phase now complete, the park is ready for inauguration.
