Teachers urged to develop positive self-esteem in children

April 19, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: In this competitive world, students from school days must develop self-confidence and self-esteem which will help them to  face problems of life boldly, said Dr. N.N. Prahallada,  former Professor of Education, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru, while addressing participants of the National Seminar on “Perspectives of Teacher Education in Nurturing the Talents of 21st Century Learners” at JSS College Auditorium, Sakaleshpur recently.

Dr. Prahallada said, self-esteem is a feeling of recognition, a sense of worth and is an important human need. Self-esteem is our attitude to other people’s opinion about us. We respect ourselves as others respect us. Many are bored by themselves and fed up with what they think they are. They find no fun in being themselves. It is the fact that even normal balanced persons at times experience a vague and haunting feeling of dissatisfaction. Self-esteem, also known as self-image, can act as a catalyst to keep us active and it will promote a balanced personality, self development and greater achievement. Teachers have a tremendous role in developing positive self-esteem in children right from school stage, he observed.

On the occasion, Dr. Prahallada was felicitated for his contribution to the field of education since 49 years.
