Teachers urged to embrace innovation and ethics

Mysore/Mysuru: Teachers must possess strong subject knowledge and serve as consistent guides to foster academic growth among students, said Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a ‘Capacity Building Programme for Teachers’ held at JSS College for Women recently.

Calling for continuous professional development, Dr. Betsurmath emphasised the importance of innovative research and teaching skills to support the holistic development of students. “In today’s evolving educational landscape, empowering teachers is vital to meeting modern academic challenges,” he noted.

Chief guest Prof. C.K. Renukarya, Director, Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Post Graduate Centre, highlighted the global shift in education driven by technological and pedagogical advancements. He encouraged teachers to adopt inquiry-based learning to spark curiosity and engage students through innovative projects.

Presiding over the event, Prof. Morabada Mallikarjuna, Director of the College Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, said the life of Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji stands as a beacon of professional ethics.

He emphasised the importance of teachers forming emotional connections with students to genuinely inspire learning.

Dr. Rechanna, Principal of JSS College for Women and M.S. Nataraju, Principal of JSS PU College, along with faculty members, were present.

The programme began with an invocation by Dr. S. Chaithra, Head of the Hindi Department. R.S. Kumar, Head of the Kannada Department, welcomed.  N.M. Krishnappa, Assistant Professor of Kannada, proposed a vote of thanks. Assistant Professor of Kannada Honnashetty conducted the event.

Technical sessions

Following the inaugural session, four technical sessions were conducted: Prof. Morabada Mallikarjuna spoke on professional ethics and their role in shaping ethical teaching practices; Prof. B. Mahadevappa, Department of Studies in Commerce, University of Mysore, addressed quality assurance in education and institutional standards.

Dr. R. Datta Kumar, Head of Operations, Excelsoft Technologies, Mysuru, explained the role of experiential learning in creating student-centric education while Prof. D.S. Guru, Department of Computer Science, University of Mysore, described teaching as the art of igniting curiosity and empowering students to reach their potential.
