Teachers urged to improve quality of education using Effective Pedagogy

July 1, 2018

Mysuru: Teachers should demonstrate a strong conviction to improve teaching to enhance student learning using effective pedagogy, said Dr. N. N. Prahallada, former Faculty, Regional Institute  of Education (RIE), NCERT, Mysuru while inaugurating a two week Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) organised by Centre for Continuing Technical Education in Karnataka (CCTEK), Government of Karnataka,  Department of Technical Education at Government CPC Polytechnic, here.

Dr. Prahallada said  Pedagogy refers to art of teaching, science of teaching, method of teaching and it is the discipline that deals  with the theory and practice of teaching and how these influence student learning. The word pedagogy originated from the Greeks, to mean “Child” and “Lead”,  then put them together to get a literal meaning “to lead the child.” The quality of Education largely depends on proper use of pedagogic principles in teaching. Effective teaching must lead to improve student progress.  Quality of instruction depends on class room climate, classroom management, exhibition of teachers professional behaviours and providing democratic atmosphere, he said.

G. C. Dharmendra, Principal, CPC Polytechnic, Kodandaram, Head, Department of Science, M.G. Basavaraju, CCTEK Manager and Y. S. Chamaraju, Programme Coordinator were present on the occasion.

As many as 36 faculty representing different Government Polytechnics  of Karnataka underwent training.
