Meet on ‘Irrigational tradition during the regime of Mysore Wadiyars’

Mysuru: “The teachings of 12th century Sharanas like Basavanna, Akkamahadevi, Allama Prabhu and many others came true during the rule of Wadiyars of Mysore,” said Nirmala Matapathi, Deputy Director (Heritage), Department of Archaeology Museums and Heritage.

She was delivering the valedictory address at the two-day State-level Conference on “Irrigational tradition during the regime of Mysore Wadiyars,” organised by Vidyavardhaka First Grade College in association with the Department of Archaeology Museums and Heritage, at the College premises recently.

“The contribution made by the Wadiyars to make Mysore a heritage capital should be remembered, especially the golden regime of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar who was called ‘Rajarshi’ by Mahatma Gandhi,”      she said.

The social reforms instituted by Wadiyars like compulsory education for women, development in the facilities for health, infrastructure and industries should lead the younger generation to become responsible citizens, said Matapathi.

Principal Dr. S. Marigowda, Conference Secretary Prof. K.S. Savitha and Co-ordinator Prof. Dhananjaya Palahalli were present.
