Teenage girl’s death and reckless driving

November 5, 2026

Sir,

It was really heart-rending to read about the death of a teenage girl student, who was hit by a KSRTC bus near the Clock Tower (SOM dated Nov. 3). It is ghastly, to say the least.

It is well-known that a sizeable number of KSRTC drivers are known for reckless driving, caring two hoots for the precious lives of innocent members of the public.

It is high time the law-enforcing authorities seriously examined this matter and initiated stringent action against erring drivers. Besides, the KSRTC authorities should also initiate disciplinary action against drivers who violate traffic rules, especially when the public or the Police Department reports such violations.

Further, they should explore providing HR training to all their drivers in a bid to avoid the recurrence of such painful incidents and reckless driving.

At present, many drivers are arrogant and drive recklessly, according to their own whims and fancies.
