Mysuru: A ten-day Craft Exhibition, sponsored by Union Ministry of Textiles, commenced yesterday at JSS Urban Haat in Hebbal Industrial Area here.
Over 50 artisans from Karnataka, UP, TN, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, AP, Rajasthan and other places have exhibited eye-catching handicrafts at about 50 stalls. On the list are fancy shawls, embroidery dresses, designer jewellery, murals, silk sarees, kolhapur slippers, decorative jugs, furniture, woollen shawls, tribal jewellery, jute items, zardosi works, pearl jewellery, Channapatna toys and many more.
Inaugurating the expo, Minister for Sugar and Small Scale Industries Dr. Geetha Mahadevaprasad said that such exhibitions would provide a good platform for artisans.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA G.T. Devegowda said that quality handicraft items were available at affordable price at the expo which was a good place for small scale industries and artisans to display their talent. The expo, which also features cultural prog. and a food joint, will be open from 10 am to 9 pm till Feb.11. Cauvery Handlooms Managing Director S. Muddaiah, JSS Technical Education Director Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Joint Director B.R. Umakanth, Tourism Dy. Director H.P. Janardhan were present.
