Tennis: Upset win for Varun

Unseeded Varun Baradwaj, a 7th std. student from Vibgyor HS, Bengaluru, came back fighting after being a set down and scored an upset win over seventh seed Rama Danush Arya (Kar) 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5) and entered the quarter-finals in the boys U-14 singles event in the MTC AITA Talent series Tennis Tournament for U-14 & U-16 (boys & girls), played at the MTC courts here yesterday.

In another upset of the day, unseeded local girl J. Apoorva, a 8th standard student of JSS (P) School, and a product of Mysore Tennis Club (MTC), playing a consistent baseline game, shocked sixth seeded Bengaluru girl Samrudhi Pokarna 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-5 and entered the quarter-finals in the girls U-16 Singles event.
