12th Asian Age Group Swimming Championship

Mysuru: Mysuru’s swimmer S. Thanya, taking part in the 12th Asian Age Group Swimming Championship held at Bangkok in Thailand, won a bronze medal in the 400 mts Individual Medley (IM) event yesterday.

Thanya, starting from lane 3, finished the event with a timing of 5:00:02 secs, just a second or two behind Jie Han Chao of Chinese Taipei, who won the silver medal with a timing of 4:59.70 secs. Meanwhile, Xintong Wang of Hong Kong China won the gold with a timing of  4:58.90 secs.

A II PUC student of Jain Sports in Bengaluru, Thanya is currently training under Gagan Ullalmath. She is the first swimmer from Mysuru to win a medal at Asian Age Group Swimming Championship. Thanya is the daughter of S.P. Shadakshari and Shwetha, residents of J.P. Nagar in Mysuru.
