Theatre can survive with audience love

December 31, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Senior theatre person Prof. H.S. Umesh said “The field of theatre can survive only with the patronage of good-hearted persons than those who watch plays by buying ticket.”

He was speaking after inaugurating two-day Natakotsava organised by Nadaranga Samsthe at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira in the city on Wednesday.

Saying that the number of audience who have gathered to watch the play ‘Sri Krishnaleelamrita’ doesn’t assume significance than those who love the medium of theatre, Prof. Umesh said “There is no binding on thousands of people to watch the play. It is enough that the play touches the heart of even two good hearted persons. Those who buy ticket may rent whistle and also applause, but lack good heartedness to encourage theatre.”

Another theatre person Rajashekar Kadamba said “There was a feeling that theatre activities will vanish with the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic. Now, theatre is making sound across the country and amateur theatre troupes are also organising theatre festivals, which is truly a sign of good development. The theatre activities should be constantly organised in the city. It is a medium of entertainment and all types of media are encouraging with wide publicity.”

The students of Gurukala School, Mysuru, staged the play ‘Sri Krishnaleelamrita’ written by Susheelendra Rao Kulkarni and directed by H.S. Kavita Dhananjaya.

Maharaja’s PU College Principal N. Udayashankar, Nadaranga Samsthe’s Nagendra and others were present.
