Senior theatre artiste Prof. S.R. Ramesh inaugurates 10-day acting workshop

Mysore/Mysuru: “An actor should keep in mind that theatre is not just a tool of entertainment but a reflection of the society,” said senior theatre artiste Prof. S.R. Ramesh. He was speaking after inaugurating the 10-day acting workshop organised jointly by Parivartana Ranga Samaja and Namana Kala Vedike at Namana Kala Mantapa in Krishnamurthypuram here yesterday.

“Theatre is not limited to entertainment. Giving message and creating awareness too becomes important here. Theatre should act as a reflection of the society by adapting the social behaviour into theatre. Hence, an actor should understand this intention and responsibility,” he observed.

“In acting, dialogue delivery and body language are very important. Hence, the workshop will focus more on these two factors. Acting becomes easy, if one has even minimum knowledge of theatre. So, along with acting skills, an actor should know various other factors involved in acting,” said the senior theatre artiste adding that these days many are attracted towards theatre and the number of people taking up theatre has increased manifold.

Senior theatre artiste Anuradha Nandakumar, who too spoke on the occasion, said: “It is said that in communication, only 7% is vocal and rest 93% is through body language. If an actor understands this, then  he can gain proficiency in acting skills.”

A total of 10 members are participating in the acting workshop which will be held between 6 pm and 8.30 pm everyday.

Workshop Director R. Yashaswini, Parivarthana Ranga Samaja Secretary Madhava Khare and others were present during the inauguration.
