Junior Pontiff of Ganapathy Ashram at Food Mela

Mysuru: Opining that there are many Ayurvedic properties in our food, Sri Datta Vijayananda Theertha Swamiji, Junior Pontiff of Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashram, said that Indian food habits are generally healthy in nature.

He was speaking after inaugurating the three-day ‘Food Mela’ organised by former MLA M.K. Somashekar-headed Janaspandana Trust at Chikkamma Niketana Kalyana Mantapa in Kuvempunagar here yesterday.

Pointing out that former MLA M.K. Somashekar is always in the midst of people, Sri Datta Vijayananda Theertha Swamiji lauded the efforts of the former MLA in coming to the aid of people during the COVID crisis.

Lauding M.K. Somashekar for organising Job Melas, Food Melas, Health Camps and the like for the benefit of common man, he said that the Food Expo, focussing on women food-makers, will help the people understand the process of making a variety of home-made foods.

Observing that home-made food not only helps in saving money but also in maintaining our health, he said that the Food Expo is host to a variety of foods from different parts of the State.

Former Minister Dr. Geetha Mahadevaprasad, in her address, said that Food Melas had become rare following the outbreak of the COVID pandemic last year. But now, Somashekar has taken the initiative of organising a Food Expo with an objective of promoting women entrepreneurship, which is laudable.

She  called upon the people to visit the Food Expo and have a taste of varieties of food from different parts of the State as well as South and North Indian dishes and recipes.
