December 16, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that there are many opportunities in the field of Library and Information Science and allied subjects, University of Mysore (UoM) Finance Officer K.S. Rekha complimented the students who have opted for the subject.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Mysore University Library and Information Science Students Association (MULISSA) for the academic year 2023-24 at the Department of Studies in Library and Information Science premises in Manasagangothri here yesterday.

Noting that it is because of Librarians that we have succeeded in saving the thoughts of the world and global personalities, Rekha said that we can see God only in knowledge, which can be acquired in Libraries.

Pointing out that in ancient times, scholars from across the globe visited Nalanda Library (Bihar) for gaining knowledge, she observed that honest efforts of Librarians is key for saving precious and invaluable books for generations to come.

“With rapid advancements in Science and Technology, Information Science is facing newer challenges with the passage of time. There is difference between information and knowledge. Today, the people are more interested in getting information rather than earning knowledge. The authorities should come up with innovative plans to draw students more towards Libraries and books. The Librarians today have also the responsibility to change lifestyles by making people read books. The freshness that we get while reading books cannot be got through digital content,” she said and called upon the students to develop interest in every aspects of life.

Dr. M. Sunil Kumar welcomed. MULISSA Faculty Advisor Dr. B. Niveditha provided a brief overview of the Department and MULISSA. MULISSA Secretary C.V. Manoj Kumar proposed a vote of thanks.

Retired University Librarian Dr. C.P. Ramashesh, MULISSA President and DoS in Library and Information Science Chairman Prof. M. Chandrashekara, Prof. N.S. Harinarayana, Prof. H. Adithya Kumari, Research Scholars and students were present during the event.
