Mysuru: Thieves, who broke into Sri Chamundeshwari Temple at Mahadeshwara Layout, have decamped with cash offered by devotees. On Aug. 14 night, thieves who gained entry into the temple on High Tension Road by breaking open the lock of the temple door, broke open the hundi (offering box) in which devotees had offered cash and have made away with the money. The theft came to light on Aug. 15 morning.
On May 14 too, thieves had stolen Rs. 80,000 cash from the hundi and also gold mangalya of the deity, according to Temple Treasurer Gangaiah. Based on the complaint from Gangaiah, Vijayanagar Police have registered a case.
