Mysuru: Research Students Forum of University of Mysore and Janachetana Trust together had organised a function on May 17 at the premises of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS) in Manasagangothri here for the release of three books written by Dr. Hombaiah Honnalagere.
Releasing the books, retired Judge of High Court Nagamohan Das opined that freedom of speech and expression is essential in democracy especially for writers to come out with good works for the society.
He contended that Akashavani and Doordarshan have literally become mouthpieces of the Government.
Continuing, Das asked writers to come out with literature that can draw the people out of darkness in society which is not possible through browsing the internet but with close interaction with people. He recalled that books have created literary revolutions dating back to the era of epics. He regretted that people fight over ancestral property but not for the books left behind by their ancestors.
Dr. Hombaiah Honnalagere’s books ‘Kannada Dalita Athma Kathegalu’, ‘Nelada Mathu’ and ‘Bharatiya Dalita Athmakathegalu’ were released on the occasion.
Writer Prof. C. Naganna, Dr. Triveni, Trust President Prasanna N. Gowda and author Dr. Hombaiah Honnalagere were present on the occasion.
