Cops should take part in sports to beat stress: Intl. Athlete Reena George

Three-day Annual Sports Meet of District Police began at the District Armed Reserve (DAR) Parade Grounds at Jyothinagar here this morning.

International athlete and Ekalavya Awardee Reena George, who was the chief guest, kicked-off the Sports Meet by releasing colourful balloons, along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Seema Latkar and Additional SP Dr. B.N. Nandini.

Speaking after inaugurating the Sports Meet, Reena said: “Whenever anything happens in the society we look at Police who are known for discipline. Similarly sports is known for discipline and one cannot even achieve anything in life without discipline. Police work under constant pressure. Hence, it would be beneficial for the Police if they take part in sports  related activities.”

MysuruZillaPanchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K.M. Gayathri, who also spoke, said: “Like soldiers, who guard the country at the border, Police guard the country in the interior areas. However, they discharge their duties ignoring even their personal life. If they take part in sports, they can maintain both mental and physical health.”

SP SeemaLatkar said: “Like we Police work in a team spirit to crack a case, we should also be regular in sports. By maintaining good health, we can also work in a disciplined manner.”

Chief guest Reena George was also felicitated on the occasion by the organisers.

Earlier, Sports Torch was handed over to the dignitaries including Reena George, SP SeemaLatkar and Additional SP Dr.Nandini.

Various sports events like track and field relay race, shot put, long jump, high jump, kabaddi and several others have been organised in the categories of officers and below ranks, for both men and women.

DIGP (Southern Range) Dr. M.B. Boralingaiah will be distributing prizes to the winners of the Sports Meet, during the valedictory ceremony organised at the same venue on Dec. 1 at 4 pm.
